The annual America Recycles Day event is scheduled for Saturday, November 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jane Longmeyer Recycling Center, located at 124 N. 14th Ave., in Dodge City.
According to city officials, the event is hosted by the organizations Community Recycling Environmental Waste and Keep Dodge City Beautiful.
“CREW / KDCB would also like to encourage Dodge City residents to pledge to recycle or recycle more for America Recycles Day,” Abbey Martin, the city’s public information specialist, said in a press release. .
Items that can be recycled are:
- Glass of food and drink
- Food and beverage tin / steel cans
- Aluminum cans
- Plastic containers # 1 and # 2
- Corrugated cardboard
- Particle boards, such as cake and cereal boxes
“Revenue from the sale of recyclables is used to purchase public improvement items such as park benches, picnic tables and garbage cans,” said Martin.
During the event, participants can stay in their vehicles while staff unload their recycling items.
Additionally, Archway Recycling will be available to accept old electronics (E-Waste) – computers, VCRs, telephones, desktop copiers / printers, scanners and flat panel TVs, according to Martin, as well as Ford County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW ) mobile trailer that will accept unwanted household hazardous waste such as paint products, herbicides, pesticides, cleaners, automotive products, batteries and anything toxic or flammable.
“The mobile trailer allows for convenient disembarkation at Dodge City in the spring and fall,” said Martin.
The hours of operation for the HHW program are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are located at 10972 113 Road.
The Dodge City Police Department will also be on site, as they will accept obsolete and unwanted prescription drugs. Drug disposal will be free and no questions asked.
The Ford County Humane Society will accept donations of undamaged and clean pet crates, beds, towels, blankets, leashes, collars, food and food bowls and CREW will also accept flower vases. for local recycling.
